Over 80 million installs
of a mobile app for a global currency company
There is an app for everything. Scratch that. There are multiple apps for everything, so users can
afford to be fickle. Being one of the first to the now-crowded currency market with a great, full-featured app
had its advantages in building trust and usership.
Beginning in 2009, I took the currency converter from its nascency as a simple, single function tool created by
a co-op student to the feature-rich, premier application it is today.
Creating a clearly branded look and feel, and a streamlined, intuitive user experience was the first priority.
Part of the iterative process was to rebuild the app's information architecture to greatly improve findability.
We also anticipated user needs, adding in features like currency profile creation and charts. In addition, we
partnered with Apple lab and Microsoft engineers to test and finalize the software on the Apple Watch and
Windows phone/tablet.
